A Gallatin man remains in jail on $125,000 bond after allegedly abusing his 5-month-old son.

Bryant Trey Fisher, 21, faces a felony aggravated child abuse charge after he fractured his son’s skull, broke several ribs and did not seek medical care for the child.

Officials from the Department of Children’s Services advised Gallatin police of a child with a fractured skull and several rib injuries at the emergency room of Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Vanderbilt staff, who advised police that the fractures were healing, said the injuries suggested child abuse. The mother had taken the infant to the hospital for a routine examination. At the time, the father was at home with another child, police said.

After police interviewed both parents, Fisher confessed to having anger problems and acknowledged he needs help. He said three weeks ago, he and his wife were sleeping when the baby boy began crying. Aggravated that “his wife didn’t get up and he had to,” Fisher said he went to where the infant was sleeping and threw a toy across the room, after which he picked up the victim forcefully. Fisher said he knew the child was hurt because the victim “was screaming so hard that he couldn’t breathe…the victim’s face turned red and he was having a hard time catching his breath,” When his wife entered the room, the father said the child “was OK,” according to the affidavit.

Days after this incident, Fisher said he was holding the baby in the kitchen when he dropped the boy and the baby’s head struck a chair. The father “hid both incidents from his wife and never administered care by seeking medical help for the victim,” police said.

“It is believed the rib injuries occurred accidentally,” GPD Officer Bill Storment said. “The investigation continues into the cause of the fractured skull.”

The injured child was admitted to Vanderbilt and is in stable condition, officials said.

Fisher is scheduled to appear in Sumner County General Sessions court Dec. 7.
