MILWAUKEE- The 22-month-old child died last month, but this week Milwaukee Police arrested the boy's 19-year-old father.
Police say the man intentionally suffocated his own son.
The toys and stuffed animals sitting on the floor of Thelma Walton's apartment is a constant reminder of her loss.
She told TODAY'S TMJ4 her feelings about her infant child, saying, "My only child, my son, my heart, everything."
22-month-old Aaron Allen died back on October 10th and Walton says her child's father came to visit late that night and he stayed the night.
But around four that morning, the boy's father frantically woke her up, telling her, "AJ couldn't breathe."
Walton jumped out of bed to find her son lifeless. She called for help, saying, "I had my baby in my hands and tried to do CPR..the next door neighbor she heard me screaming and she knew CPR."
Little Aaron never regained consciousness and four weeks later police now say the boy's death was no accident.
Walton was separated from the father, but she has no idea what made him snap.
As the mother looks for answers, she reflects back to Facebook message she says the father posted that same night.
She says the message stated something around the idea that he refused to live a life that he have never lived before. Then she claims he wrote, "tonight will be brutal."
Walton says she hopes the father spends life in prison. Police arrested him on Monday---charges are still pending against the father.
