Father took 5 children hostage in Cebu Thursday, November 3, 2011
CEBU CITY (Updated) -- Police said a drunken father in northern Cebu took his five children hostage and locked themselves in their home following a disagreement with his wife.
The standoff began around 3 p.m. Wednesday when Raul Longgakit, 39, locked his five children in their home in Borbon town, Cebu, prompting authorities to step in.
The suspect, who was allegedly armed with a gun, freed four children early Thursday, leaving a 15-year-old girl behind.
Longgakit released the girl after his wife agreed to make peace with him. The child wasn't hurt.
The suspect and his wife had been constantly quarrelling due to Longgakit's alcoholism. He allegedly lost his job as a security guard after he has gone on absent without official leave.
Authorities said family problems prompted Longgakit to take his own children hostage.
Borbon police chief Emiliano Ygot said Mayor Bernard Sepulvida and the suspect's wife helped in the negotiations.
Longgakit said he is willing to face charges for the hostage-taking. (Sunnex)
