Dad SHELTON KEITH ALEXANDER was just another one of those fathers who couldn't stand a crying newborn....Where was this baby's mother in all this? No mention that she was in the bed (where the baby was assaulted) at all.

Dad tells court he was "half awake" when he attacked his child

A dad who tried to silence his crying 5-week-old son by punching him repeatedly has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Shelton Keith Alexander, 22, admitted to hitting his son Adriel Alexander about six times in Aug., 2009.

According to testimony, the boy was lying in bed next to his father when he was beaten by his father who was "half awake," Dallas News reports. The infant was hospitalized with rib fractures,severe bruising and internal injuries.

The child died the next day.

Jurors convicted Alexander of 1st degree injury of a child and handed down the sentence Thursday afternoon.
