Dad faces battery charges against 3-month-old son; baby in serious condition (Greenwood, Indiana)

Good lawd. Yet another "caretaker" father with a short fuse. Seems that between the barking dog and the crying baby, daddy GABRIEL COOPER just couldn't hack it. And where is Mom? Not one word.

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT.

Greenwood father, 19, arrested after infant is hurt

May 18, 2011

Greenwood -- A Greenwood man was arrested on felony charges of seriously injuring his infant son Monday in what police are describing as a shaken baby case.

Gabriel Cooper, 19, faces preliminary charges of battery and neglect. Cooper was arrested Tuesday, a day after his son was taken to the intensive-care unit of Riley Hospital for Children in serious condition.

A statement from Greenwood Police Sgt. Doug Roller said Cooper admitted shaking his 3-month-old son when he was frustrated by the child's crying -- in combination with noise from a barking dog in his apartment and construction in the rear of his building.

After the shaking incident, Cooper called 911 to say his son was choking on infant formula and then not breathing. Police became involved after the child was hospitalized and the extent of the injuries became apparent.

A person working in the area of Cooper's apartment said he heard a baby crying in that apartment, then heard a man repeatedly say "shut up," according to the police statement.

Police said they were told that the boy suffered from bleeding on the brain.
