Dad charged with murder in death of 18-month-old son (Baltimore, Maryland)

Observe that dad SHELDON BARRY BROWN was "caring" for his toddler son when he "allegedly" murdered him. So was dad the appointed "caretaker" while Mom was working? Was this a custody/visitation situation? Who knows. What we do know, is that infants are at an escalated risk of harm when they are cared for by unemployed males, whether they are fathers or boyfriends.

BALTIMORE -- Baltimore County police on Friday said a father has been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree child abuse in the death of his 18-month-old son.

Sheldon Barry Brown, 41, was arrested Thursday, police said.

The child, Stiles Brown, was taken by ambulance to Sinai Hospital and then to the University of Maryland Medical Center on Jan. 31.

Police said the boy had traumatic injuries. He was pronounced dead on Feb. 4.

An autopsy was performed, and detectives were recently notified that the death was ruled a homicide by the chief medical examiner.

Investigators determined that Sheldon Brown was caring for his 18-month-old son on the date that the child was injured. He was unable to provide an explanation for the injuries, police said.

He is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
