A BUDERIM father said he was disgusted with himself when he saw the “horrific” injuries he caused to his five-year-old son when he backhanded him in the face.
Police arrived at the family home the morning after the incident on August 16 and found the child had extensive bruising and swelling to both eyes, nose and upper lip.
He told police his dad had hit him.
The man, who can not be named to protect the identity of the child, told police his son got “shirty” so he became “forthright” with a back hander.
His child was taken to Nambour Hospital for treatment where it was confirmed the boy had not suffered any permanent injury.
Yesterday, the man pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm.
Magistrate Tom Killeen said he was satisfied that the man was remorseful.
He recommended the father continue counselling and therapy sessions and placed him on an 18-month probation order.
