Teenage dad to be tried as adult on felony child abuse charges (Omaha, Nebraska)

Teenage dad MARCUS BASS will be tried as an adult on felony child abuse charges. He is accused of shaking his 3-month-old son. The baby had bleeding on the brain and other injuries. Of course, the usual "reason" is blamed: the baby was crying.

Injured baby's dad in adult court

A 17-year-old Omahan accused of shaking his 3-month-old son will be tried as an adult for felony child abuse.

Marcus Bass, the baby's father, appeared in court this morning and was ordered held on a $50,000 bail. To be released, he would have to pay 10 percent, or $5,000.

According to police, Kalli Roland took her son, Jayden Roland, to Children's Hospital & Medical Center on Friday with bruises to his left temple.

Doctors determined the baby's injuries were "definitely abuse," according to court documents.

Doctors at Children's Hospital found the boy to have bleeding on the brain, a broken right rib and possible fractures to both arms and legs.

Deputy Douglas County Attorney Renee Mathias said the child wouldn't stop crying, and Bass shook him. Bass wasn't able to provide a reasonable explanation to authorities about what happened.

Police said the infant's injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

A protective custody hearing is scheduled for next week to determine whether the baby will remain in the care of Health and Human Services.
