A Brevard man accused of killing his 2-year-old son has been charged with second-degree murder.

Joshua Ryan Baltezore, 23, was originally charged with felony child abuse on Nov. 2, according to the Transylvania County Sheriff's Office. The charge was changed to second-degree murder after the infant died from his injuries Nov. 6.

Baltezore's son was found without a pulse and was not breathing on Oct. 30. EMS crew members were able to revive the baby, who was first taken to Transylvania Regional Hospital before being transferred to Mission Hospital in Asheville.

Baltezore's secured bond is set at $100,000. He's being held in the Transylvania County jail.

The sheriff's office would not release the child's name or the specific cause of death.
