Dad arrested for shaking 9-month-old son; did not live with boy's mother (Prescott, Arizona)

This article is not entirely clear, but it sounds like the father and the stepmother brought the baby into the emergency room after Dad ENRIQUE SOTO's 9-month-old son became "unresponsive"--apparently from being violently shaken. Mom, we are told, "does not live with the father." So once again, it appears that we have a violent teen dad who apparently was awarded some sort of visitation and/or custody rights who shouldn't have had anything of the sort. There is NO reason why a 9-month-old baby needs extended visits with Dad, especially a teen dad. As I have repeated here before, teen dads are the worst risk group there is for shaken baby abuse.

Prescott police make arrest on child abuse charges
The Daily Courier
Thursday, November 19, 2009

Prescott police arrested a 19-year-old man Tuesday on charges of child abuse after his unresponsive 9-month-old son was taken to the hospital this past month.

Prescott police booked Enrique Soto, 19, of Prescott, into Camp Verde jail on charges of child abuse and aggravated assault on a minor.

Soto and his wife, Briawnna Soto, 19, brought their baby to Yavapai Regional Medical Center at 9 p.m. on Oct. 7 because he was unresponsive after having a seizure, said Lt. Clayton Health, public information officer for the Prescott Police Department.

The baby was flown to Flagstaff Medical Center where he underwent surgery for two subdural brain bleeds, Heath said.

During the surgery, doctors found more internal bleeding consistent with shaken baby syndrome, Heath said.

The baby was later released to his mother, who does not live with the father, Heath said.

Over the course of the investigation, Enrique Soto allegedly told Prescott police detectives he shook the baby on several occasions, Heath said.
