Abducting dad charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, battery-domestic violence (Marianna, Florida)

Oh, you just know this abduction was motivated out of pure paternal love (eyes rolling now). As dad GREGORY JEROME BASFORD tries to drive off with his kid, HE HITS A PEDESTRIAN with his truck. Meanwhile, the desparate mother has managed to climb into the back of the truck, so at some point, Dad stops the truck and FORCIBLY THROWS HER OUT OF THE VEHICLE. Oh yea, real nice Daddy this one. Surely nothing in his heart but the desire for more father-child time. The nice daddy has been charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and battery-domestic violence.

A Marianna father was arrested Friday after he allegedly tried to flee with his child during a dispute.

According to a news release from the Marianna Police Department, officers were called out to the Grocery Outlet on Lafayette Street for a child custody dispute taking place.

On their arrival, officers learned that the father, Greggory Jerome Basford, 28, of 3395 Riley Drive in Marianna, had fled the scene with the child.

As he was fleeing, Basford allegedly struck one person with his vehicle.

In addition, the child’s mother had climbed into the back of Basford’s truck, in an attempt to retrieve the child, as Basford was leaving, according to police. When Basford reached Kindle Lanes on U.S. Highway 90, he stopped the truck and is alleged to have forcibly thrown the child’s mother out of the vehicle.

Basford was eventually stopped on Old Spanish Trail by the deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

He was charged with aggravated battery with a motor vehicle, and battery-domestic violence and was taken to the county jail.
