Dad jailed 20 years for death of 4-month-old daughter (Penang, Malaysia)

Father Jailed 20 Years For Causing Daughter's Death

PENANG, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- A father, accused of causing the death of his four-month old daughter, was sentenced to 20 years jail by the Sessions court here Thursday.

The accused, Mohamad Nasir Sulaiman, 34, a plumber was charged with causing his daughter's death by throwing her on the bed which resulted in brain hemorrhage to the child at No. 100A, Blok D, Mukim 12, Kampung Masjid Sungai Ara, Bayan Lepas at 9pm on March 7, 2009.

Session's court judge Rosilah Yop passed the sentence after hearing submission from the prosecution and defence lawyers, appeal from the accused, as well as public interest.

Rosilah when passing sentence said the accused should have been responsible for the care of his child and give her all the love she needed and not treat her violently.

The judge also questioned Mohamad Nasir's actions that did not reflect his responsibility towards his child.

"The court asks...what kind of a father are you Encik Nasir...? asked Rosilah.

According to the charge sheet, Mohamad Nasir who was represented by V. Parthipan was accused of throwing his child Nurul Ain Amirah on a bed, causing brain hemorrhage which eventually caused her death.

For the offence under Section 304 (a) of the Penal Code, he faced a maximum of 30 years jail and fine.
