A North Logan infant, allegedly abused by his father, died Sunday night after being taken off life support.
Four-month-old Jesus Yandel Martinez was pronounced dead at Primary Children's Medical Center just after 11 p.m., said North Park police Sgt. John Italasano.
Police on Friday arrested the boy's father, 36-year-old Francisco Martinez, on suspicion of severely injuring his infant son. Police now will request that prosecutors charge Martinez with felony child abuse homicide and child abuse, Italasano said. Martinez remains in the Cache County jail.
Police and medical personnel responded to a 911 call Wednesday afternoon on a report that a 4-month-old boy wasn't breathing, Italasano said Sunday.
At a home near 2500 North and 300 East, they found a man with a baby and three other children, believed to be 18 months old and 4 and 5 years old.
Paramedics took the infant to Logan Regional Medical Center, then flew him to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City.
Doctors and police found the child had internal head injuries consistent with child abuse, Italasano said. Martinez was arrested Friday in Salt Lake City, where the family was staying with relatives to be close to the child.
Martinez was booked into the Cache County jail on suspicion of three counts of aggravated child abuse.
