WEDNESDAY, JULY 14, 2010

WEST CARTHAGE — Bail of $10,000 was set Monday night for a father who is accused of assaulting his 16-month-old child.

Dwayne L. Brakebill, 29, of 411/2 N. Main St., is charged with second-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child and harassment. He was arraigned before Village Justice Delmar House and was sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown, to await grand jury action.

Village Police Chief David J. Pustizzi Jr. said the child was struck in the face and on the back Monday evening, and was taken by ambulance to Carthage Area Hospital. He declined to elaborate about the child's injuries or how they were caused. He also did not discuss the child's condition.

The child was conscious when police responded to the residence on a domestic-incident complaint received at 8:18 p.m. Monday, Mr. Pustizzi said. The investigation is continuing, with more charges anticipated, he said.
