MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. - Chief Cecil tells WTRF.com that the child's mother reported the burn incident that happened on July 20th after her seven year old son spent the weekend in his father's custody.
Larry Dayton allegedly burned the child with a large lighter, leaving a half dollar sized burn. He has been charged with child abuse resulting in injury and was taken to the Northern Regional Jail. Chief Cecil says the child is going to be fine and is safe.
"He'll have a scar for the rest of his life that will remind him of this but the child is safe away from the father and will medically be fine," Cecil said.
Dayton was arraigned and bond was set $10,000. He has posted bond and is free pending a preliminary hearing.
