Custodial dad indicted in scalding death of 4-year-old son (Warren County, Ohio)

Evidence points toward ROBERT RITCHIE being a custodial father. There is mention of a step, but no mention of the mother at all. What happened to Mom, as often happens in these accounts, is simply ignored.

WARREN COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - The father of the 4-year-old Franklin boy who died after being placed in a bathtub of scalding water has been indicted, Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell announced Monday.

Robert Ritchie is charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering children for the March death of Austin Cooper. The boy's stepmother, Anna Ritchie, was charged with murder in the days after his death.

Robert is accused of failing to seek medical treatment for Cooper, thereby resulting in the child's death, according to Fornshell.

The Warren County Coroner's Office ruled the boy died from Hypovolemic shock - the loss of blood and fluid.

The boy should not have died, Fornshell said. If he had received medical treatment, he would have had a more than 95 percent survival chance.

Anna is charged with scalding her stepson to death. She pleaded not guilty to a six-count indictment including murder charges last month.

Franklin police say Anna admitted to dipping Cooper's legs in scalding water as punishment and sending him to bed early on March 15.

Fornshell said investigators believe the boy was in the 134-degree water in a bathtub for 20 to 25 minutes. His skin was falling off and he was bleeding when he was removed.

Anna then dressed the child in pajamas and socks before putting him to bed at 4:30 p.m.

No one checked on the boy until 9:30 a.m. the next morning, when his dad found him, Fornshell said.

In an interview with WDTN, Robert claimed his son was already in bed when he got home from work on March 15.

He said he found Austin unresponsive the next morning and called 911.

Anna's trial date was set for Sept. 26. She faces 15 years to life in prison.

Dad with history of DV assaults 3-year-old son during weekend custody/visitation (Jackson County, Mississippi)

The names sounded vaguely familiar so I looked them up to see if we had posted on them before. Sure enough, dad NATHAN BLAKE MCCRORY has a history of domestic violence and had weekend custody/visitation. Of course, the media "forgot" to tell you about it this time....

See here.

Jackson County father accused of child abuse

3-year-old’s wounds include suspected cigarette burns, bleeding on brain
UPDATED 2:30 PM CDT May 10, 2016

PASCAGOULA, Miss. —A detective testified 3-year-old Zander Saucier had at least 30 wounds to his body, including suspected cigarette and lighter burns and bleeding on the brain, when he was brought to Singing River Hospital last month.

The Sun Herald reported that the boy's father, Nathan Blake McCrory, 24, is accused of causing the injuries to his son. McCrory was in Jackson County Court on Monday for a preliminary hearing on felony charges of child abuse and one count of marijuana cultivation.

Judge T. Larry Wilson determined there was enough evidence in the case to be bound over to a grand jury for indictment.

Detective Eddie Clark testified at the hearing and talked about some of the other injuries Zander suffered.

McCrory claims the boy suffered the injuries by falling down the stairs.

Custodial dad, step accused of burning 7-year-old son (West Bend County, Texas)

Has to be a custodial father as there is no mention of a mother either reporting or ignoring the abuse. What happened to the mother is totally erased from the story, as often happens. Dad is identified as CHRISTOPHER FUNDERBURG, who clearly knows how to play the Clueless Daddy card.

Couple accused in case of alleged child abuse that left boy's feet burned

By Kevin Quinn Monday, February 22, 2016 06:25PM

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Fort Bend county father and step-mother are accused of serious crimes for the way they allegedly punished their seven-year-old son and then refused to get him the medical attention he needed as a result.

Marie Horton, 27, is accused of injury to a child. She was just indicted by a grand jury following the September incident. According to court documents she was punishing the boy because she believed he lied about pulling the fire alarm at school. The boy told detectives that Horton filled the bath in their Waterview Estates home with water, held down his hands and put her foot against his legs to keep him in the tub. He says she told him, "If you don't stay in, I'll make you sit in the tub." Then he said she asked, "Why did you pull the alarm" and "Please tell me why so you can get out."

The burns were so bad, he told investigators, his skin was coming off immediately after he was finally let out of the tub. Doctors said they were second and third degree burns on his feet.

"Being a parent, that's not reason for punishment. You don't punish a child like that. That's abuse. Period," said neighbor Michelle Leban.

In court documents, Horton claims she turned on the water and left the bathroom, insisting she only realized something was wrong when she heard a fall and the boy screaming.

She's a registered nurse and says she didn't bring the child to the hospital because she thought she could take care of him by putting medicine on the injuries and wrapping them.

The boy's father, Christoper Funderburg, 29, is accused of injury to child by omission. He was at work when this happened. He says he didn't see his son's injuries until the next morning and told deputies he didn't think a trip to the ER was necessary because his wife, the nurse, was caring for his son. The boy though told detectives they didn't "know what to say to the doctors."

Horton admitted turning down the temperature on the hot water heater after the incident.

The boy told investigators it was not the first time he and his two siblings had been given what they call the "hot water punishment." The seven-year-old said Horton did this to him at least four times.

The attorney for Horton and Funderburg declined comment. Child Protective Services temporarily placed the boy and his two younger sisters with relatives. A CPS spokesperson says the boy is still recovering.

Custodial dad, step charged with burning 7-year-old boy with hot water, retraining him with zip ties; what happened to boy's mom? (Clarksburg, Maryland)

Not one word on what happened to the mother of this little boy or how dad CRAIG ANTHONEY WILLIAMS got custody. This should be one of the first questions reporters ask, but they seldom do. Do we know that Mom is alive? If not, do we know for a fact that she died from natural causes? Has she "disappeared" due to extreme domestic violence (if Daddy was capable of doing this to a child, you can bet Mom got similar treatment). Was she out-maneuvered in family court? What?

A father and stepfather in Maryland have been arrested and charged with child abuse after allegedly restraining their seven-year-old son with plastic wrap and zip ties and burning him with hot water.

Craig Anthoney Williams, 42, and Nicole Williams, 39, came under investigation after their son was taken to Shady Grove Hospital on December 2 with a possible seizure, multiple abrasions, blisters and bruises over his body and head.

He had to be airlifted Children's National Medical Center for further treatment.

The little boy told doctors that his parents often bound him to his bed all day with zip ties.

Both his father and stepmother admitted to the staff that they restrain him, ABC 7 reported.

His father said he had been using plastic wrap to contain the boy to his bed for about seven months, usually at bedtime.

The father also said he would notice urine and fecal matter on the boy when he checked on him in the morning.

When the hospital called police, the boy told investigators that on Thanksgiving he was restrained in plastic wrap and only released to come to the dinner table, ABC 7 reported.

The boy said his father is the one who wraps and binds him most days, from his neck to his knees, securing him with zip ties or belts.

However he said his step-mother often assists.

When a nurse asked him what caused the blisters on his hands, the boy said his hands had been put in hot water.

According to the charging documents, the boy also has suicidal thoughts.

Both the father and step-mother were arrested and charged with first-degree child abuse.

While the bonds were originally set at $300,000 and $400,000, a judge lowered bonds to just $10,000 each.

The couple have since been released. Five other children - aged one, four, six, 12, and 17 - live in the home in Clarksburg with the two.

Officials are not saying whether the parents are allowed to be around the kids, citing privacy laws, but neighbors said they have not seen the couple at their home in weeks.

Dad convicted of burning hands of 2-year-old son in boiling water during visitation (San Leandro, California)

These days, FRs would tell you that the solution to fathers like DANTE ROBERTSON is to give them FULL custody. 'Cause somehow they were "frustrated" or something but wouldn't be if they had full control and were able to fully punish Mother as she deserved. Yea, I know. Pure bullcrap.

How about no access? No access=no abuse. But we're told that's "simplistic." Seems to me that it makes more sense than constantly "involving" sh**s like this father and somehow believing that some fantasy goodness will come out of it all.

San Leandro father convicted of child abuse

OAKLAND -- A San Leandro father was convicted Wednesday of felony child abuse for burning his 2-year-old son's hands with boiling hot water in 2011.

Jurors deliberated for two and a half days before finding Dante Roberson, 43, guilty of child abuse resulting in great bodily injury. Roberson, who had been free on $100,000 bail, was taken into jail custody after the verdict was read Wednesday afternoon.

The child is still undergoing treatment from the skin on his hands being melted off from hot water while under Roberson's care in September 2011. The boy's mother, who had primary custody, was not home when it happened.

A doctor testified at Roberson's trial that the child's injuries were the result of "forced submersion," according to a prosecutor.

A sentencing date will be picked Thursday.

Ottawa Mountie, wife continue trial on severe child abuse

WARNING: Story contains graphic and disturbing details

An Ottawa Mountie and his wife were arrested in 2013 in what police called the "worst case of abuse police have seen."

An Ottawa woman told police "I haven't done anything" after she and her RCMP officer husband were accused of severe long-term abuse of the man's 11-year-old son, including chaining him up in the basement of their home, court heard Monday.

The woman, 36, and man, 44, are on trial for what Ottawa police called the "worst case of abuse police have seen" when they were arrested in February 2013. They cannot be named to protect the boy's identity.

Each is on trial for aggravated assault, forcible confinement and failing to provide the necessaries of life.

The woman is also charged with assaulting the child with a weapon, while the man is charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.

On Monday, court saw the woman's police interview via video, which was taken after her arrest. She told police her 11-year-old stepson was "out of control" and that she feared for the safety of her toddler and four-month-old baby.

She said she never hit the boy nor was she aware of his many injuries, including burn marks near his genitals, scabs and scars on his body and that he was gaunt and malnourished.

At one point, Ottawa Police Sgt. Tracy Butler told her in a raised voice the boy was "maltreated and abused by your husband."

She added, "you knew about it, you condoned it and you let it happen."

The woman, who was at times emotional during the interview, said, "I haven't done anything. I swear to God."

Father admitted to confining son During the interview, which lasted more than two hours, the woman told police her stepson was stealing and getting into fights.

She said he was sent to private school after being kicked out of school, but the boy began being home schooled in 2012.

She said the boy was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder and oppositional defiant disorder and prescribed anti-psychotic medication.

She also said she worried he had sexual feelings for her after he asked her to breastfeed him.

"(He) didn't attach to me. I love him but it was difficult to reach out to him when he's mocking me all the time," she said.

She also said he told his father he would "initiate sexual things with other boys" at school and camp.

Last week, the court heard the man admit he used a chain and plastic ties to confine his son in the family's Kanata basement in his police interview video.

In 2013, the RCMP said the father has been on leave since May 2011, but the reason for that remains under a court-ordered publication ban.

Police sources previously told CBC News the man was a member of the force's counter-terrorism unit.

The trial continues.

Greensburg father facing child abuse charges after allegedly burning baby’s hands

GREENSBURG, Pa. — #A Greensburg father is facing child abuse charges after allegedly burning his 4-week-old son's hands by dipping them in hot water.

Greensburg police told Channel 11’s news partners at TribLIVE that Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh contacted them and voiced suspicions after treating the baby’s hands for burns and blisters.

TribLIVE reported that Joshua Koshinsky, 23, initially told police he didn't know what had caused his son's injuries, saying he gave the child a bath and fed him before noticing the blisters.

He and his wife, Nicole Koshinsky, told police they thought the bottle may have been too hot and had burned the boy's hands.

However, Nicole Koshinsky later told police that she had lied. She said her husband had dipped the baby's hands in coffee cups filled with hot water, TribLIVE reported.

Joshua Koshinsky told police that it was an accident. He said his son was acting fussy and he thought warm water might calm the child. He said he didn't realize how hot the water was, according to police.

Joshua Koshinsky is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

He was held at Westmoreland County Prison on $20,000 cash bail.

He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 24.

Sole custody abusive dad subject of DCF child abuse report (Hardwick, Massachusetts)

We've reported on this case before. Abusive dad RANDALL LINTS had sole custody. And yet the Fathers Rights guys in Massachusetts still wail about how discriminated against they are in custody matters. Total bullsh**. The reality is that the system bends over backwards to accommodate abusive fathers in custodial matters, and won't interfere with the father's "rights" till it's often too late.

DCF releases report on Hardwick child abuse investigation

Posted: Sep 04, 2015 10:16 AM Updated: Sep 05, 2015 5:11 PM

Hardwick (WHDH) - The Department of Children and Families released on Friday a report on its investigation into what led a young Hardwick boy to be hospitalized.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker held a press conference on Friday and said the report was intended to identify failures of DCF processes that led to the injures sustained by 7-year-old Jack Loiselle. "These kids deserve the same chances other kids have," Baker said of children in DCF care. "To go to school, play with their friends, and find the kind of security, predictability and unconditional support that most of us take for granted so that they can grow, learn and succeed."

Baker said the report showed that DCF, despite its best intentions and efforts, does not have the policy framework, operating rules and other aspects that are required to properly served children. Several policies are more than 10 years old.

"DCF does not have a parental capability review policy for all cases involving custody issues," he said. "Neither the courts, nor DCF, did enough diligence concerning the childhood of Jack's biological father. His own childhood was enormously troubled and should have been factored into every decision concerning Jack's care, well being and safety."

By Jan. 1, the Western Massachusetts region of DCF will return to its previous management structure by recreating the Central Massachusetts region, costing between $1 million and $2 million.

"DCF has the authority to recruit, hire and train the social work team and the staff it needs to deal with rising case load and if we need to we will find the money to support the department's efforts," he said.

Baker said many people who work in DCF do good work every day, but the systemic issues show that much more needs to be done in order to keep children safe.

According to authorities, Loiselle weighed just 38 pounds.

The 7-year-old was unconscious and suffering from starvation and dehydration.

He had bruises on his face and bleach burns on his hands and knees.

At last check, he remains unresponsive at a long-term rehabilitation facility.

DCF became involved with the family in February, eight months after Randall Lints was granted sole custody of his son.

Police arrested and charged Lints a week after Jack was taken into intensive care.

Governor Charlie Baker will discuss the case Friday afternoon.

Dad sets three children on fire (Perth, Australia)

Dad is identified as EDWARD JOHN HERBERT.

Perth girl doused in petrol and set alight hours after birthday party

A YOUNG girl who should be celebrating her fourth birthday on Monday is instead fighting for life in hospital after being doused with petrol and set alight.

Hours after an early birthday party, the three-year-old suffered “horrendous” burns to her face and upper body when she was allegedly set alight as she slept in her cot.

Neighbours who came to the aid of the girl and her siblings, who were also doused with petrol, were confronted by the horrific scene just after midnight Saturday on Holbeck Street, Doubleview.

The children’s mother ran from the home screaming, “He’s set the kids on fire”, a shocked resident told PerthNow.

An off-duty policewoman living across the road administered first aid and plunged the three-year-old in her bath to ease the burns.

Another resident confronted a man at the home and used a “chokehold” to restrain him.

Edward John Herbert, 43, believed to be the children’s dad, appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday afternoon on five charges of aggravated grievous bodily harm, attempted grievous bodily harm, being armed with a filleting knife and dousing a victim in petrol.

The three-year-old girl was in a critical but stable condition at Princess Margaret Hospital late Saturday night, while her six-year-old sister and seven-year-old brother were both stable.

The shirtless and tattooed self-employed tiler, handcuffed and surrounded by four police officers in the dock, told the court he understood some of the charges before lapsing into an unresponsive state.

“He appears to have gone into some sort of state. He’s not responding,” Magistrate Jennifer Hawkins said as Herbert fell silent, bowed his head, closed his eyes and pulled strange faces.

Ms Hawkins said the accused needed to be seen by a mental health nurse and he was remanded in custody to reappear in court on Tuesday.

He then collapsed as he was dragged out of the dock.

Mr Herbert’s Facebook page reveals he loves his bull mastiff-staffordshire terrier dog and is proud of his many tattoos, including a homemade tattoo of a cross on his knuckle.

Mr Herbert collapsed during his court appearance on Saturday afternoon.

He also has his children’s names tattooed on his neck and has posted photos of them draped in the Australian flag.

The former Brisbane man captioned one photo: “My baby boy asleep love him to bits.”

In another post, he described one of his daughters as “my baby girl”.

One Holbeck Street resident said: “The children’s mother screamed, ‘Help, help, he’s set the kids on fire’.

“The two elder children appeared OK, they just smelled of fuel. But the youngest ... she was burnt horrendously. It just frightened the hell out of me.”

Another resident told how he restrained a man at the home until police arrived and took him into custody. “I ran into the house and put him in a chokehold until the cops arrived and soon enough he was out cold in a couple of seconds, ”the resident, who did not want to be named, said. “The house was a complete mess.”

Police were first called at 12.05am to reports of a man creating a disturbance.

At the scene, police officers were told that flammable liquid had been poured inside the house, with three children set on fire.

Neighbours came running to the house in Doubleview after hearing the children’s mum scream for help.

Detectives spent about an hour inside the house Saturday morning and left with a number of items.

A police spokeswoman said the investigation was ongoing and further charges were expected.

Other neighbours living in the street said they also saw a man arguing with a taxi driver on Thursday outside the home.

City of Stirling councillor Stephanie Proud, who lives near Holbeck Street, said she was “horrified that could happen anywhere, much less Doubleview”.

Former chairman of the Scarborough Beach Association and local real estate agent Tom O’Rourke, who also lives nearby, described the attack as “awful”.

“My heart goes out to the family. I’m shocked it can happen in such a quiet suburb. Society is really at the crossroads,” he said.

Custodial dad, step on trial for severe abuse of 11-year-old son (Gold Hill, Oregon)

Another one of those cases where the mother's existence is neatly written out of the story.

How did abuser dad LAWRENCE MILLARD get custody? And what happened to the mother? Is she deceased? If so, do we know for a fact that it's from natural causes? Has she "disappeared"? If so, do we know the circumstances? Is she alive, but beaten out by this sadistic torture freak in family court? What?

Gold Hill couple on trial for child abuse
Prosecution: Boy burned, tied up
A Gold Hill couple are on trial facing accusations they severely abused their 11-year-old son.

By Vickie Aldous Mail Tribune Posted Aug. 25, 2015 at 5:54 PM

Nurse practitioner Diane Kutzke remembers her first impressions of an 11-year-old boy who came to her for treatment of his burned hands.

"He was a very polite, sweet little boy. He was thin — emaciated almost — with horrific burns," Kutzke said in a videotaped deposition, adding that unlike most children, he waited patiently while at the clinic, reading a Harry Potter book.

Kutzke said his swollen, reddish-purple hands had so much tissue damage she couldn't tell whether the burns were recent.

The Jackson County District Attorney's Office alleges the boy's stepmother, Angela Marie Millard of Gold Hill, said she would show the boy what hell felt like, then held his hands under scalding hot running water sometime around Thanksgiving 2014.

He didn't receive medical care for his burned, infected hands until early February, when his grandmother took him to a clinic in Washington state, prosecutors allege.

Angela Millard, 35, and her husband, Lawrence Millard, 38, the boy's biological father, are on trial this week in Jackson County Circuit Court facing a host of assault and criminal mistreatment charges. The trial is scheduled to continue through Thursday.

During the February health clinic visit, Kutzke said she also observed the boy had a broken tooth, a swollen foot, bruised legs and an injury to his face.

Fearing that his parents were traveling from Oregon and would pick him up at the Washington clinic, Kutzke called 911.

"I called 911 because it was clear to me he had been abused," she said in the deposition, which was played Monday during the trial. "I thought he was in imminent danger."

The Millards were arrested in February and lodged in the Jackson County Jail, where they remain on $100,000 bail each.

After interviewing the boy and conducting a search of the family's one-bedroom apartment, investigators said they found a blue rope the Millards allegedly had used to tie up the boy when Lawrence Millard went to work and Angela Millard — who was pregnant at the time — ran errands and went to her own doctor appointments.

The boy was allegedly left tied up so long he urinated and defecated on himself. Angry that his clothing then had to be taken to a laundromat for washing, the Millards allegedly responded by diapering the boy and then leaving him tied up, prosecutors said.

Testing revealed the boy's DNA on the rope, plus the DNA of both parents, according to court testimony.

Diaper packaging and a diaper — sized to fit a child between 38 and 65 pounds — were also found in the home, investigators said.

Jackson County sheriff's Detective Steve Bohn, who was part of the team that executed a search warrant on the Millards' home, said investigators found a broken tooth in the bathroom. A dentist later was able to affix the broken-off tooth to a tooth root in the boy's mouth, he said.

Prosecutors allege Angela Millard hit the boy so hard with a hairbrush she broke out the tooth. Lawrence Millard is accused of injuring the boy's legs by beating him with a table leg.

The boy is now being cared for by a foster family, along with his toddler sister and a baby sister who was born a few months ago, said Jackson County Deputy District Attorney Virginia Greer.

In a videotaped interview between the boy and Bohn that was played in court, the boy said he is glad he and his toddler sister were taken away from the Millards.

"She would probably die if my dad beat her like he did me. She's only 2," the boy said.

Prosecutors allege the Millards did not get medical attention for the boy, who is now 12, because they feared the alleged abuse would be discovered. They allegedly did not allow the boy to go to school after he was burned. School records show he stopped attending school.

The boy said his stepmother bandaged his hands, but did not take him to a doctor.

Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Colin Fagan, an expert in vulnerable victim and high-tech crime investigations, said a search of Lawrence Millard's laptop showed deleted content of the boy clad only in underwear with bandaged hands. The image was preserved on the Cloud, an Internet-based data storage system. #The photo was taken on Dec. 10, 2014, long before the boy's February visit to the Washington state clinic with his grandmother, Fagan testified.

Fagan said laptop and cellphone searches show someone in the household entered search terms for "What happens when CPS (Child Protective Services) is called on you," "When they come after you" and "CPS advice for parents."

Prosecutors said the parents made the boy write extensively as a punishment.

Bohn said investigators found numerous writings made by the boy as he referenced biblical scriptures and said he was trying to obey his parents so he would be allowed to go back to school. The writings were entered as evidence over the objections of the Millards' court-appointed defense attorneys, who said the submissions would be too prejudicial.

The defense attorneys said they would acknowledge some facts in the case are true, but that the prosecution's case is deficient because some facts are still in dispute.

As one punishment, Bohn said the boy had written, "I will listen to and love my family."

Bohn testified the boy wrote the sentence over and over again — 1,136 times.

Saginaw father accused of scalding toddler son's hands pleads no contest to felony

By Cole Waterman on August 12, 2015 at 6:30 AM, updated August 12, 2015 at 2:00 PM

BAY CITY, MI — A year and a half after he burned his 1-year-old son's hands with scalding water, a Saginaw father accepted a plea deal days before his trial would have begun.

Elliot J. Robinson, 30, on Thursday, Aug. 6, appeared before Bay County Circuit Judge Harry P. Gill and pleaded no contest to one count of second-degree child abuse. The charge is a 10-year felony, but as Robinson pleaded as a habitual offender, his maximum possible sentence is doubled to 20 years.

A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as such for the purposes of sentencing. Gill had to rely on investigators' reports to enter a conviction on the record.

In exchange for his plea, the prosecution agreed to dismiss a count of first-degree child abuse, which is punishable by up to life imprisonment.

Robinson's trial was to begin Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred Dec. 11, 2013, at the Bay City home of the mother of Robinson's son. Robinson was there with his three children while their mother was away.

Bay City Public Safety Detective Brian Berthiaume testified in the July 2014 preliminary examination that he interviewed Robinson after police were notified of the incident by the Department of Human Services. According to Berthiaume, Robinson told him he was doing dishes in the kitchen while his 1-year-old son was in a bathtub. Another child came to him and said the younger boy was out of the tub, so Robinson went into the bathroom, Berthiaume said.

Robinson saw the boy standing in the bathroom with feces on one hand and was trying to pick up more from the floor, the detective said.

"Mr. Elliot Robinson Sr. said he had slapped (the boy's) hand in a disciplinary manner and he began to cry," Berthiaume testified. "He had turned the water on, the hot water. Then he had lifted up the boy and placed him on the knee. He braced his knee up against the sink. He grabbed his arms just below his elbow and wrist and put his hands in the water to wash the poop off his hands."

Robinson said he held the boy's hands in the water for upwards of 10 seconds, Berthiaume testified.

"(The boy) was crying prior to him putting him in the water," Berthiaume said. "As he was washing his hands, the boy began crying louder. At that time, he pulled his hands out of the water and he said the boy's skin on his hands began to peel off like a glove."

In that same court hearing, Dr. Bethany Mohr, a pediatrician at the University of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor, testified she reviewed medical records regarding wounds on the hands of Robinson's son, as well as reports from Children's Protective Services and police agencies pertaining to Robinson. She said Robinson's son suffered second- and third-degree burns to his hands and that there were clear lines of demarcation with the child's burns, meaning there was no splash-style scalding above his wrists.

"In my opinion, his injuries are the results of physical abuse," Mohr testified. She estimated the boy's hands were in the water for 2 to 15 seconds.

Gill is to sentence Robinson at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19.

Dad found not guilty of deliberately burning 6-week-old daughter (Lancaster County, Nebraska)

Astonishing how excuses can be made for the most outrageous behavior--when you're a father.

We're supposed to believe that this buffoon "innocently" scalded a  6-week-old baby causing burns over 65 percent over her body, and that the reason was because he was "inexperienced."

How experienced do you have to be to know that you don't put babies in boiling hot water? How experienced to you have to be to know that you call 911 when someone is injured?

Over and over I find that abusers do NOT call emergency medical help, but engage in stalling tactics like calling other people. That's why I tend not to believe this guy.

Yet another reason why we need paid maternity leave in this country. Young males are absolutely incompetent infant caregivers--and that's when there not out and out dangerous.  Statistics show that infants are at the highest risk of abuse and neglect with this group. They have no nurturing skills and are easily "frustrated"--a volatile combination.

Dad is identified as REID ALDEN.

Jury finds young dad not guilty of abuse for baby's burns from bath

August 06, 2015 7:00 pm • By Lori Pilger | Lincoln Journal Star

A jury Thursday found a young Lincoln father not guilty of negligent child abuse for scalding his 6-week-old daughter in bath water that was too hot.

"You have to remain focused not on how bad these injuries were. They were terrible," Reid Alden's attorney Sean Brennan said. "But every time something happens it doesn’t make it a crime."

This was an accident, he said.

Alden's daughter ended up with burns over nearly 65 percent of her tiny body, from her cheeks, chin and ears to her whole back and bottom to the middle of her thighs.

Dr. David Voight said when she got to the hospital she probably had a 20 percent chance of survival.

She spent five weeks in the hospital. Doctors had to remove her loose skin and cover the burned spots with pig skin grafts and put her on a ventilator to help her breathe.

And they saved her.

But she was forever scarred at her father's hands, Deputy Lancaster County Attorney Jeff Mathers said Wednesday afternoon in closing arguments.

"He didn't beat her. He didn't shake her. But she is scarred for life. It was his hands that put her in that tub that was too hot," he said.

On April 16, 2014, the day Alden's wife returned to work after giving birth to their daughter, Alden called her frantic. So hysteric, she said, she didn't even recognize his voice right away.

Something was wrong with Raelynn. He'd filled up the baby tub, like usual, and gave her a bath, for the first time without his wife. This time, the tiny girl's skin turned bright pink and her skin started sloughing off when he took her out.

Alden called his wife, not sure what to do.

She sent her brother-in-law, a dad of five who lived nearby, to check on Raelynn. One look at Raelynn, and he told Alden to call 911. He could tell she was burned.

At the counsel table Tuesday, Alden, now 21, cried as a recording of the 911 call played, his daughter's pained cries caught in the background.

While rescue workers whisked her from the family's apartment at 1517 Superior St. to the burn unit at St. Elizabeth, Lincoln police started questioning Alden.

Alden ended up charged with a felony, but not because he had intentionally abused his daughter. At trial this week, he wasn't accused of that. Prosecutors charged him with negligent child abuse, alleging he recklessly placed his daughter in danger by putting her in water that was too hot without checking it first.

"It wasn't his intent or on purpose, but he did it, and it resulted in serious bodily injury," Mathers said.

But Brennan said the question was whether Alden knew how hot the water was, realized it could hurt her and put her in it anyway.

Voigt testified that it was possible Alden could have put his hands in the water and not been scalded by it. Adults have thicker skin than babies. And people don't all have the same sense of touch.

Brennan said Alden was a new, inexperienced parent who made a mistake.

"There isn't anybody more sorry about what happened to Raelynn than Reid Alden is. It's his daughter, he loves her," the attorney said.

The jury got the case around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and returned to the courtroom Thursday at 2:45 p.m. with a verdict finding Alden not guilty.

DCF "actively" engaged with custodial dad since February, but that didn't stop him from putting 7-year-old son into coma (Hardwick, Massachusetts)

Where do you even start with this case?

With freaking DCF, that managed to coddle this abuser for months on end while this little boy was starved and beaten?

How about with the family courts, who gave this batterer SOLE CUSTODY--even though the mother was filing for an order of protection just nine days after the baby was born?

We need to see names, people. Social workers, judges. All the fathers-rights people who have been planted in the system. And no more crap about how poor daddies are discriminated against in Massachusetts.

Dad is identified as RANDALL LINTS.

Since February, DCF Had Been ‘Actively Engaged’ With Hardwick Boy Now In A Coma

July 24, 2015 Updated July 24, 2015, 9:15 am

By David Boeri Updated July 24, 2015, 9:15 am

Editor’s Note: Some details in this story are disturbing.

BOSTON — The state’s child welfare agency is facing questions about whether it did enough to protect a 7-year-old boy from the Worcester County town of Hardwick who’s now hospitalized in a coma.

The Department of Children and Families acknowledges that it had been involved with the boy’s family since February.

The boy’s father, Randall Lints, is charged with child abuse and is being held without bail. He’s scheduled to be back in court next week.

WBUR spoke with the boy’s mother, Amber Loiselle, who’s waiting to find out whether her son Jack survives. Loiselle says Jack has been in a coma since July 14, when Lints called 911 to report finding him unresponsive.

“He has most beautiful soft blonde hair. He was squeezing my hand. I just know that he’s going to come back,” an emotional Loiselle said Thursday.

After Lints called 911, police and medical personnel found signs of starvation, dehydration, bruises and burns. Lints, who was granted sole custody of the child last year, was arrested and charged on Wednesday with assault and battery and reckless endangerment.

On Wednesday, Loiselle had accused DCF of clear negligence. On Thursday, she was taking pains not to talk about DCF or the boy’s father, since the matter is also in family court.

When asked if the boy had been in the care of DCF, Loiselle said: “I am not at liberty to discuss any of that information because it is a private family matter, so my lawyer advised me not to speak anything about it.”

Meanwhile, the DCF, which declined to comment on the case 10 days after the 911 call, acknowledged Thursday that indeed DCF had been “actively engaged” with both the boy and his father since February, and they had seen them three times this month, while the boy continued to lose some 25 percent of his weight, according to a hospital pediatrician.

When asked if she felt the DCF didn’t do their job, Loiselle said, “That’s something I can’t talk about right now.” #She added: “My personal feelings are that I’m upset that this happened to my son and that … something could have been done.”

According to sources familiar with the case, the report that triggered DCF’s involvement came from Jack’s elementary school. Under the law, schools are mandated to report reasonable suspicion that a child is suffering from abuse or neglect. There were also indications at school that the boy was stealing food.

A police report estimated his weight had dropped from 50 pounds to 38 and that his father withheld food and drink. The report also indicated the boy suffered from bleach burns, the result of the father’s forcing his son to wash the floors, because, according to one source, the boy was apparently urinating on himself.

Yet DCF says that one of its social workers saw the child on June 29.

Until he was arrested, Lints lived with his girlfriend, her three young children and Jack. He separated from Loiselle before their son was born and later contested paternity.

His criminal record, according to a law enforcement source, indicates that Jack’s mother sought a restraining order against Lints nine days after Jack was born. Loiselle confirmed there was a restraining order in place, saying it was “for violence, for threatening to hurt me.”

A dangerousness hearing scheduled for Friday was rescheduled until next week because Lints’ first attorney is no longer representing him.

The reason is sobering. John Madaio is not on the list of attorneys qualified to represent defendants in murder cases. Lints’ new attorney is.

DCF stated Thursday night that it “immediately took custody of the child” on July 14. That, of course, was after the child fell into a coma.

Custodial dad charged with abuse, starvation of 7-year-old son; boy in coma (Hardwick, Massachusetts)

7-Year-Old Boy Abused, Starved, Father Arrested

So yes, RANDALL LINTS IS a custodial father. So who gave this POS custody and allowed this situation to fester like this, apparently for months? I want to start seeing judge's names, people.

Police said he was brought to the hospital unconscious, weighing only 38 pounds

A Massachusetts man is facing multiple charges after his 7-year-old son was brought to the hospital unconscious suffering from starvation and dehydration last week.

(Published Wednesday, July 22, 2015) Updated at 10:38 AM EDT on Thursday, Jul 23, 2015

A 7-year-old Massachusetts boy was abused so badly by his father that he was in a coma and unresponsive when he was admitted to a local hospital, suffering from "starving and dehydration" at just 38.5 pounds, according to police and court documents.

The boy's father, 26-year-old Randall Lints, faces a slew of child abuse charges.

In addition to the malnutrition, police said the child, abused on the second-floor of a Hardwick home, had injuries to his skin as a result of "bleach exposure."

Massachusetts State Police said they discovered the boy after responding to a 911 call on July 14. Lints allegedly told police that he went to check on his son and found him unresponsive, and that he had fallen out of bed days earlier.

First responders said they found bruises to the child's "forehead and jaw," but doctors said the injuries weren't consistent with falling out of bed. The boy also had injuries to his feet, "likely from a manufactured object," and appeared to have lost "12-15 pounds in only a few months," according to the report.

Lints was arrested about a week after his son was admitted to the hospital.

Amber Loiselle identified the victim as her son, Jack. She said she's been visiting him on her custody days in the hospital.

"He's my first born, and he's a great older brother" she said. "I just want him to open his eyes, because they're the most beautiful color of blue."

Isabella Johnson, 10, rides the bus with the child.

"He told me he scrubs the floor sometimes," Johnson said. "He says for a chore, his parents make him clean the floors."

Johnson also said he would be cold and hungry at school.

"Sometimes he comes to school, like in the winter time, he was really cold," she said. "He'd go to school on the bus and be like, 'I'm hungry,' so he'd open his lunch and eat it, and then he'd have nothing to eat at lunch."

Isabella's mom, Dawn Johnson, said through tears that she saw the little boy just recently.

"I had a yard sale a couple weeks ago and I was giving toys to him and stuff, because he doesn't have — I just let him have stuff," said Dawn Johnson.

Wednesday, a woman neighbors identified as Lints' girlfriend cried near the house. Neighbors didn't report seeing anything amiss, but one downstairs neighbor said she heard yelling a few months ago.

"I heard him yelling at his son, saying, 'Why did you do it, why did you do it?' and the child crying," she said.

Amber Loiselle said Jack is slowly getting better.

"Justice will prevail for my son, and he is going to come out of this, because he is just the most amazing little boy," she said.

The Massachusetts Department of Children and Families says the boy is in its custody. He is still recovering at a local hospital. A Facebook page set up for him says he is progressing, and that he was able to wiggle his arms and shoulders and cough on his own.

Dad charged with abusing 7-year-old son who fell into coma; boy had signs of starvation, dehydration, bruising--Is this a custodial dad? (Hardwick, Massachusetts)

Is RANDALL E. LINTS a custodial father? Sure sounds like it, though this article is pretty oblique about his status.

Even in a case of joint custody, this kind of abuse could not have gone on this long without the mother knowing about it. If she had known about it, she would either have been charged with failure to protect, at minimum, or would have contacted the authorities herself.

But in fact, there is no reference to a mother either in the home or elsewhere. We're merely told--at the very end--that a mother is "not named" in the report and that Daddy Dearest is unmarried.

In other words, he was almost assuredly custodial.

So who gave this torture freak custody of a little boy? And what happened to this little boy's mom? Did dad dish out similar treatment towards her?

Randall E. Lints, 26, entered no plea at his arraignment Wednesday in East Brookfield District Court.

A Hardwick man is being held without bail in a disturbing case in which he allegedly assaulted his 7-year-old son, who fell into a coma and showed signs of starvation, dehydration, and bruising, injuries that were exacerbated when he was forced to scrub floors, court records show.

Randall E. Lints, 26, entered no plea at his arraignment Wednesday in East Brookfield District Court to charges of assault and battery on a child with substantial injury, reckless endangerment of a child, and two counts of permitting injury to a child, said a spokesman for Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Lints was ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing on Friday. He was arrested on Tuesday.

His lawyer, John F. Madaio, declined to comment on the charges but said Lints is “very concerned for his son, and he’s very distressed about the whole situation.”

The state Department of Children and Families said in a brief statement that the agency “received a report and is collaborating with law enforcement on its investigation.” The boy is currently in DCF custody.

A DCF spokeswoman declined to say whether the boy’s family had a prior history with the child protection agency, citing respect for the youth’s privacy.

According to a State Police report, a Hardwick officer went to Lints’ home on July 14, after a caller said a child there was breathing but unresponsive. The officer saw bruising on the boy’s head and jaw, and Lints said the child fell out of bed two days earlier, the report said.

The boy was taken to Baystate Mary Lane Hospital in Ware with “life-threatening injuries,” according to the report. He was transferred to the Baystate Health medical campus in Springfield, where Dr. Stephen C. Boos examined him several times.

According to authorities, Boos noted that the boy had multiple bruises on his body that were inconsistent with a fall, and the child had lost approximately 12 to 15 pounds in recent months, dropping to just 38½ pounds.

Boos wrote in one assessment that “reports of being ‘in his room’ for days, against a background of behavioral complaints, combined with the physical injuries, apparent starvation, and dehydration create grave concerns for inflicted injury,” the State Police report said.

The report, filed after Lints’s arrest on Tuesday, said the boy is still in a coma. He remains hospitalized in Springfield, and a Baystate Health spokesman said he had no information on the child on Wednesday.

Investigators have found that Lints, who has a grim reaper tattoo on his chest, rarely lets his son out of view or allows him to be alone with others, and that he has a history of limiting the boy’s food and drink intake, even though a therapist addressed the issue in May, the report said. #Lints’ strict discipline and “forcing [his son] to continuously wash the floors contributed to [his] injuries,” State Police wrote.

The report also said injuries to the child’s knees and hands are the result of bleach exposure and are healing.

In addition, a nurse spotted scarring and blistering on his feet that appeared to be the result of a burn, the report said.

Madaio, his lawyer, said Wednesday that “I think some information will come out [during Friday’s hearing] that is interesting, at least as far as the situation that he finds himself in. . . . That’s all I have to say right now.”

The boy’s mother is not named in the State Police report, and court records indicate that Lints is unmarried.

Dad abuses 11-month-old son; baby left with severe brain trauma (St. Petersburg, Florida)

This is probably a custody/visitation situation. Notice that there is no mention of the mother, either in the home or elsewhere. Given that the father is only 19, it is very likely he was ever married to the mother. And notice that the baby was discovered by an unnamed "family acquaintance."

Dad is identified as ERIC JOSEPH-KAREEM WILLIAMS.

PD: St. Petersburg baby abused by father, left with severe brain trauma

By: WFTS Webteam Posted: 12:42 PM, Jul 14, 2015

St. Petersburg Police have arrested a father on charges of aggravated child abuse.

Detectives said Eric Joseph-Kareem Williams, 19, abused his 11-month-old son so severely it caused brain trauma that required emergency surgery.

The baby was found unresponsive at home on 17th Way South by a family acquaintance on July 12.

The baby was rushed to the hospital where doctors also found severe burns on his body and bruises on his chest and face.

Williams told investigators the injuries were the result of an accidental fall.

A doctor determined that injuries to the brain and body were inconsistent with William's explanation to detectives.

In addition to the child abuse charges, Williams is also facing charges for violation of probation for carrying a concealed firearm.

The child remains in critical condition at All Children's Hospital.

"Caregiver" dad gets 30 years for torture of 10-month-old daughter (Milwaukee, Wisconsin)

Dad is identified as COREY BURNS.

Corey Burns: Father Who Brutally Beat, Burned 10-Month-Old Daughter With Charcoal Grill Learns His Fate

Different types of child abuse cases are reported around the country on a daily basis, but a recent case is unlike anything most have ever read about. Now, a father has learned his fate for the horrific torture of his infant daughter.

Corey Burns’ 10-month-old daughter suffered what prosecutors have described as “absolute torture.” Now, he has learned his fate for the ongoing, agonizing torture his poor daughter suffered. On Thursday, June 25, Burns was sentenced to 30 years behind bars. The 21-year-old father gave a brief statement of apology for the heinous crimes he committed that led to baby’s death. “I apologize for my actions,” he said. “I take full responsibility for my actions. And that’s it, judge.”

Although he’s apologized for his actions, sadly, the horrific damage has already been done. “There are no words that encompass the level of depravity and the inhumanity that was shown to this child over a short period of time,” Assistant District Attorney Matthew Torbenson said.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the baby and her mother, Chazzidy White, 22, relocated from Texas to Wisconsin in late October of 2014. Just days after their arrival, White began working, and Burns became the baby’s full-time caregiver, which is when things took a horrific turn for the worse. Throughout the month of November, the baby suffered relentless torture that her mother did nothing to stop.

Channel 3000 reports that baby’s thighs were “wasting away” when she arrived at Children’s Hospital last November. It was reported that she had extensive injuries, including a burn pattern on her back that resembled the lines on a charcoal grill in their kitchen. In addition to severe burns in her mouth and burns on her legs that looked as if she had been skinned, she also had bites, bruises, and severe brain injuries as a result of being “violently shaken, slammed down, and thrown,” according to investigative reports. Approximately 15 percent of the baby’s body was burned.

Although Burns’ sordid childhood, which also consisted of horrific abuse, was taken into consideration, Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Rebecca Dallet still had little remorse for him, insisting that his vile actions were inexcusable regardless of what he endured as a child.

“You took a child who was already severely burned over her legs, her lips, who has bite marks and all of these injuries to her body, who is no longer sitting up, who is not making eye contact… and is basically laying there,” Judge Dallet said. “And you put her on a grill.” She added, “This was torture, absolute torture of your daughter, and it went on for many, many days,” she said. “I see a lot of child abuse cases in here. I see a lot of cases of burns. I have never seen anything like this.”

Burns and White were both charged for torture the baby suffered. Burns’ sentence follows White’s guilty plea, entered back in April. According to NBC-15, she was charged with child neglect and failing to prevent child abuse. She was sentenced to two years in prison. After her release, she will also have five years of extended supervision.

Primary caregiver dad gets 30 years for "absolute torture" of infant daughter (Milwaukee County, Wisconsin)

Father gets 30 years for 'absolute torture' of baby girl

By Ashley Luthern of the Journal Sentinel June 25, 2015

When a 10-month-old baby girl arrived at Children's Hospital last fall, her thighs were wasting away.

The front of her legs were covered with scalding burns, injuries so painful she simply stopped moving.

She had burns inside her mouth. Her neck and body were covered with bite marks and bruises. She had severe brain injuries, the kind that come from being violently shaken, slammed down or thrown.

#And the burn on her back matched the pattern of a charcoal grill in her parents' kitchen.

On Thursday, her father, Corey Burns, was sentenced to just over 30 years in prison for "cruelty and torture," as the case was described in a medical report.

"There are no words that encompass the level of depravity and the inhumanity that was shown to this child over a short period of time," Assistant District Attorney Matthew Torbenson said.

The baby and her mother, Chazzidy White, moved to Wisconsin from Texas in late October. Within days, White had a job and Burns became the child's main caregiver.

On Nov. 5, White called from work to check on the baby. Burns asked her to hurry home, saying their daughter was burned in bathwater. The explanation wasn't plausible, investigators say, because the baby was not burned on her bottom or back of her legs. She was burned only on the front, as if she was dipped in the scalding liquid.

White later told police her daughter's legs looked "like she was skinned."

White wanted to take her to the doctors, but Burns talked her out of it, saying child welfare officials would get involved, according to court documents. A week later, White noticed her daughter had circles on her neck, scratches on her face and bruises on her chin. The baby became lethargic.

On the morning of Nov. 22, White saw a grate burn and bruises on her daughter's back. Burns claimed the baby brushed against a metal heating vent. The burn pattern did not match the vent, but did resemble the markings of a charcoal grill in the kitchen.

"You took a child who was already severely burned over her legs, her lips, who has bite marks and all of these injuries to her body, who is no longer sitting up, who is not making eye contact ... and is basically laying there," Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Rebecca Dallet said.

"And you put her on a grill."

When the baby's back burns were discovered, White took the child to the hospital, where doctors found burns on 15% of her body. She and Burns were arrested. White, 22, pleaded guilty to child neglect and failing to prevent child abuse. She was sentenced in April to two years in prison and five years of extended supervision.

Burns, 21, pleaded guilty to three felonies. Four others were dismissed. When asked if he had anything to say, Burns cleared his throat before a brief statement.

"I apologize for my actions," he said. "I take full responsibility for my actions. And that's it, judge."

Dallet acknowledged Burns had a troubled life and had himself suffered horrific abuse but said nothing explains his actions, which have scarred his daughter for life.

"This was torture, absolute torture of your daughter, and it went on for many, many days," she said. "I see a lot of child abuse cases in here. I see a lot of cases of burns. I have never seen anything like this."

Arrest Warrant Issued For OK Father Accused Of Immersing Child In Hot Water

Posted: Jun 19, 2015 12:53 PM EDT Updated: Jun 19, 2015 12:53 PM EDT

By Xin Xin Liu, News9.com

DEL CITY, Oklahoma - An arrest warrant has been issued for a man accused of immersing his 2-year-old child in scalding water in Del City.

The suspect, 22-year-old Trashawn Deon Lanier, is wanted on a complaint of child neglect.

According to authorities, on May 30, officers responded to the report of a possible child abuse involving a 2-year-old girl at Baptist Hospital. The child was transported to Southwest Medical Center and then transferred to Baptist Hospital Burn Center, suffering from 2nd and 3rd degree burns over 24 percent of her body.

Based on medical examination, doctors found out that the victim had been immersed in scalding hot water.

Lanier is the victim's biological father. On May 28 at a home in Del City, Lanier was giving the victim a bath when he claimed the toddler climbed into the bath tub, which was filled with scalding hot water, and then fell into the tub.

However, a doctor said that the forensic evidence does not match Lanier's version of how the incident happened. The doctor said based on the child's injuries, Lanier would have had to physically place the victim in the water.
