PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Providence police have arrested a man accused of buying drugs, with his 5-year-old son in the car.

Anthony DeSimone was taken into custody Wednesday evening, near the Chad Brown housing development.

According to a police report, DeSimone got into a parked car on Oregon Street Wednesday afternoon. Police detectives said they saw him hand over cash in exchange for cocaine.

When DeSimone returned to his car, with his son still inside, police arrested him.

"I thought that they were fishing. It was about two hours that they were gone, so I called to see how they were doing and a detective answered the phone and told me what was going on," explained the suspect's wife, Ashley DeSimone.

Police said they seized .6 grams of cocaine and 3.5 grams of marijuana from DeSimone. He was charged with possession of both drugs.

The child wasn't hurt and was later released into the custody of a relative.

The suspect's wife said the news is disturbing.

"It's mind blowing, actually," Ashley DeSimone said, "I haven't spoken to him. He should really know better to put never mind himself, but our 5-year-old son in a situation like that."

The alleged drug dealer in the case, 19-year-old Brian Doire, is also facing charges of distributing a controlled substance near a school, resisting arrest, and assault.

Anthony DeSimone's next court date is set for August 17.
