Police: Dad left baby alone at apartment

DAYTON —

A Dayton father was arrested early Saturday morning because he allegedly left his 10 month old daughter alone in an apartment for hours. And the child’s mother said this isn’t the first time, according to a police report.

The mother called police late Friday night when she arrived home from work and found the baby alone with a soaked diaper.

She told police that her boyfriend, who is the baby’s father, was supposed to be watching the girl between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. while she was at work. She said this is the third time he has left the child unattended and she wanted to press charges, according to the report.

She alleged that he smokes crack cocaine and usually goes to buy it on his pay day, which was Friday.

Police located the boyfriend, 44-year-old Dexter Rucker, walking in the apartment complex.

According to the police report, he claimed he had only been gone for 25 minutes to take out the trash, but police informed him that they were called more than 45 minutes earlier.
He also allegedly gave police false information, providing them his brother’s name and social security information instead of his own. Officers determined that both brothers have outstanding warrants for their arrest in Georgia.
Rucker was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of child endangering and falsification. His bond has been set at $3,500.
