Dad gets 1 year of "home detention" for breaking legs of 5-month-old daughter (Napier, New Zealand)

Wow. Such excuses. Daddy JAMES HALL had "trouble" bonding with the baby, so naturally he broke both of her legs. We really do have low expectations for fathers, don't we? We just don't want to admit it.

Home detention for breaking child's legs

A 20-year-old Napier father, who broke his baby daughter's legs, has been sentenced to one year of home detention.

James Hall admitted last year bending back the legs of his five-month-old baby and squeezing her hard against his body, causing fractures in both legs and a break in her shin.

In sentencing in the High Court in Napier today, Hall's lawyer told the court he had trouble bonding with the baby and was having difficulties being a teenage father.

Justice Peters told Hall it was very rare for home detention to be imposed in cases involving violence and children, but that his age is a significant mitigating factor.
