A Whittier father allegedly abducted his three small children this afternoon, threatening to kill them and himself so that his wife could "share his pain," police said.

An Amber Alert was issued for the three children after they were taken by their father, Daniel "Louis" Leon, who had a fight with his wife, according to the Whittier Police Department.

[Updated, 8:15 p.m.: Leon turned his three children over to detectives tonight and and was booked on suspicion of domestic battery, child abduction and terrorist threats, police said.]

"They had a physical altercation of a domestic nature," said Jason Zuhlke, a department spokesman. "Before he left, he made claims that she was going to share his pain and that he was going to kill himself and his children."

Whittier police said the children are: 6-month-old Jeremy Logan Leon, wearing an orange hooded Mickey Mouse sweater and grey pants with a baseball and glove on the rear pocket; 2-year-old Lance Leon, about 3 feet tall and 20 pounds, wearing a long-sleeve pajama top with blue pants and brown shoes; and 4-year-old Danielle Leon, about 4 feet tall and 53 pounds, wearing a brown short-sleeve shirt with monkeys on the front, white capri pants and pink Converse shoes.

Daniel Leon, 30, is 5 feet 8, 200 pounds with a shaved head and brown eyes. He was wearing a gray T-shirt and black shoes and shorts, police said.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. in the 8900 block of Painter Avenue. Police said the father took off in a black Dodge Intrepid, license plate number 4LQY818.
