WKYC Staff, WKYC 7:58 p.m. EST January 10, 2015
CLEVELAND -- A 33-year-old father is under arrest after a 4-hour standoff on Cleveland's east side Saturday.
The standoff started at about 11 a.m. on Gruss Avenue. Police say it began as a domestic dispute between the mother and father of a 2-year-old child. The father forced the mother out of the home during the dispute, keeping the 2-year-old, another 6-year-old and the suspect's mother inside the home.
After an hour of negotiations, Cleveland SWAT was called to assist. Police say the suspect's brother and community activist Art McCoy assisted in negotiations. The children were eventually let out of the house and the man was arrested on outstanding misdemeanor warrants.
The standoff ended at about 3 p.m.
The children were examined by EMS crews and were not harmed.
