A 37-year-old Tumwater man accused of choking his 12-year-old son pleaded not guilty to second-degree child assault in Thurston County Superior Court on Tuesday morning.
The man was arrested Dec. 23 and later released on $5,000 bail.
The Tumwater Police Department began investigating the man when a woman reported that her ex husband had strangled their 12-year-old son, and that their 10-year-old daughter had witnessed the attack, according to court documents.
Officers interviewed the children, who said the boy had been playing with a toy kangaroo when their father jumped over a bed, tackled the boy to the ground and put his hand around the child’s throat, according to court documents. The boy told officers, “I was having a little trouble breathing.”
