Police: Father admits to shaking baby, causing brain trauma

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A Syracuse man confessed to shaking his 3-month-old son Monday afternoon, causing brain trauma, officials said.

Felipe M. Lebron, 28, of 418 Douglas St. is charged with felony recklessly causing an injury to a child and is in custody on $50,000 cash bail or bond at the Onondaga County Justice Center.

"He admitted that he did shake the child," Lt. Eric Carr said at a news conference Tuesday.

Carr said officials don't know why Lebron shook the baby, but he called police to the home around 1:40 p.m.

The child's mother was also at the home when the baby was hurt, but is not expected to face charges, police said.

It is unclear whether anyone else was at the house at the time of the incident or whether Lebron has other children, Carr said.

He said the baby is in critical condition at Upstate University Hospital, where doctors said his injuries are consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
