The charges against a young southwestern Pennsylvania father stem from hospital findings when the dad's 2-month-old son was admitted on Friday. At the time, the baby showed signs of shaken baby syndrome, including brain bleeding and detached retinas, the Associated Press is reporting.
As a result, Jeffery Michael Kennedy, 19, of Jefferson, Pa., finds himself charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child, the AP reports.
Police say the father admitted shaking his baby so hard the boy's eyes rolled back into his head, AP writes, adding:
Kennedy remained jailed Tuesday in lieu of $75,000 bail.
The Washington Observer-Reporter writes that the infant suffered bleeding on the brain and detached retinas in the assault Friday at a Greene County home.
The boy was released from a Morgantown, West Virginia hospital Monday. His family says he may have permanent damage to his vision.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 27.
