YORK — A Rock Hill father arrested on child neglect and heroin charges in June when police found his 6-year-old daughter in a vehicle with him after he was using heroin pleaded guilty in court Monday but will have a 15-year prison sentence suspended if he completes drug treatment court, prosecutors said.
Samuel Rhodes III, 33, pleaded guilty to unlawful child neglect and third offense possession of heroin with intent to distribute, said Marina Hamilton, 16th Circuit assistant solicitor. The sentence will be suspended if Rhodes fully completes York County’s drug treatment court. In that program, offenders must plead guilty then complete the treatment and counseling regimen over several months.
Rhodes has previous convictions for possession of heroin and cocaine, Hamilton said. The child’s mother now has custody.
In the June incident police found Rhodes sitting in a car outside a motel room in Rock Hill with another man in the passenger seat and the daughter asleep in the back seat. The child’s mother told officers Rhodes said he was going to get milk but never returned. Officers found drug paraphernalia.
