Dad with shared custody is "lone suspect" in stabbing death of 1-year-old son (Ventura, California)

So who granted this unstable, violent father joint custody? Fathers Rights at work, and so there is a dead child.

VENTURA, Calif. (AP) — A 1-year-old boy was found stabbed to death Friday, and his father, who was also found with stab wounds, is the lone suspect, police said.

The father called 911 about 1:45 a.m. to say his child was dead at their home, and when officers arrived he told them where to find the child then slumped to the ground, police said.

The child, who was found on a bed with a single stab wound, was declared dead at the scene, Ventura police Cpl. Anthony Snow said.

The father was taken to a hospital, where he underwent surgery and was moved to intensive care, police said. It's not clear where the father's stab wounds came from.

Police Cmdr. Darin Schindler told the Ventura County Star that the father is "a suspect in our eyes because he is somebody who was last with the child alive. It doesn't mean he's going to be arrested. It doesn't mean we've said he's done this. But he is somebody we suspect has information about the crime."

The father had separated from the child's mother and had shared custody, Schindler said.

Eight other people who rent rooms in the home were there at the time, but they did not wake and come out of their rooms until police arrived, Schindler said.

None of them were related to the father and child, whose names have not been released.
