A FATHER who used a hidden camera in the bathroom of the family home to video his children and friends has been sentenced to 22 months jail.
The 47-year-old Kilsyth man pleaded guilty to seven counts of making child pornography, four counts of an indecent act with a child under 16 and one charge of installing an optical surveillance device.
County Court Judge Chris O'Neill today said the crimes were a serious breach of trust and included the man, who has already served three months jail for possession of child porn, taking footage of two other children sleeping at his home, including occasions where he moved clothing to produce illicit images.
The offences, which occurred between between 2004 and 2010, resulted in his children feeling betrayed and confused, Judge O'Neill said.
But Judge O'Neill said the children were upset at their father spending more time in jail and the man, now a registered sex offender, should be given "special mercy" because of the impact his incarceration would have on the care of his wife who had advanced multiple sclerosis.
Judge O'Neill ordered the man serve six months of the sentence and the remainder of the term would be suspended.
