JACKSON — A 4-month-old child remains in fair condition at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
The baby boy was flown there from Allegiance Health on Saturday with head injuries, according to previous reports.
The boy's father, 24-year-old Thomas Carter, was arraigned Monday on charges of first-degree child abuse and assault with the intent to do great bodily harm. He has been released from jail on a $5,000 bond.
Just before 4 p.m. Saturday, police went to Allegiance Health to investigate what doctors suspected to be child abuse, Jackson police earlier reported.
An ambulance had been sent to the 900 block of Porter Street for the child having trouble breathing.
At Allegiance, doctors determined he had head injuries, Deputy Chief John Holda said Monday morning.
Carter's preliminary exam is scheduled for March 20. If convicted of first-degree child abuse, he could face up to 15 years in prison.
