EDWARDSVILLE - A father who fell on top of his 3-month-old daughter while drunk and suffocated the infant is facing charges for endangering her life.

Jeremy W. Pride, of the 400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in South Roxana, was charged Friday in Madison County Circuit Court with endangering the life of a child following the death of Callie Pride on Nov. 13, 2011.

Pride is accused of asphyxiating his daughter after falling off the couch on top of her. A Madison County coroner's inquest ruled the child's death a homicide last month.

Lt. Bob Coles with the South Roxana Police Department said Pride's actions led to the death of his daughter.

"While under the influence of alcohol, he passed out, which then led to her death," Coles said.

Coles said Pride took the baby from her crib and was holding her when he passed out.

He said Pride's blood-alcohol level was 0.096 percent, above the level of 0.08 percent that constitutes a legal presumption of intoxication in Illinois, when he was tested six hours after the incident.

Pride and his wife, Sarah McDonald, were having a party on the night of the incident, Coles said.

He said neighbors complained about noise around 2:30 a.m.; the party broke up, but the couple and a friend continued to drink until 3 a.m.

Pride's bond is set at $50,000. After a warrant was issued for his arrest, Pride was in custody Friday night at the Madison County Sheriff's Department in Edwardsville.
