Police: Dad left 4-year-old son home alone while he went out drinking overnight, assaulting people (Colorado Springs, Colorado)

Dad KELCEY BYERS appears to be a chronically neglectful, abusive alcoholic. It also seems very likely he is a custodial father--though the mainstream media, as usual, refuses to confirm this. Notice there isn't ONE WORD about this little boy's mother, just the grandmother who found the boy home alone while Daddy was out carousing, getting plastered, and beating up people. What's the back story here? Remember that research shows that violent and abusive fathers are more likely to aggressively pursue and secure child custody than non-abusers.

An intoxicated father forgot he left his 4-year-old son home while he went out drinking overnight, police tell 11 News.

After getting involved in several fights in downtown Colorado Springs, Kelcey Byers, 30, panicked that he had lost sight of his son, who he believed was downtown with him, and called police to assist.

Police tell 11 News Byers continued to pick fights with various people after officers arrived on scene.

"[Officers] spent a fair amount of time searching and putting out calls...in case maybe a cab driver or someone had seen the child and picked him up," one officer told 11 News.

About 90 minutes after searching downtown and finding no sign of the child, police called Byers' mother. Byers had mentioned to officers that he used to live with her, which gave police the idea that maybe the little boy was with her.

Byers' mother confirmed that she had her grandson, telling police she stepped in after receiving an unusual phone call from Byers. Thinking something seemed off, she drove to Byers home and found her grandson alone and upset. The grandmother took the little boy to her house; she told police she had no idea her grandson had been considered missing.

"It was a scary story with a happy ending," an officer interviewed said.

Byers was arrested for charges related to child abuse. He is currently booked in the CJC. His first court appearance, a video advisement, will be Monday.
