Shahid Nazar, charged with felony child abuse and malicious wounding, in Woodbridge

WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WUSA) -- A man shook a 3-month-old girl so violently, she suffered "severe head and upper body trauma," Prince William County Police said in a news release.

Shahid Nazar, 30, of Woodbridge shook the baby on two occasions, once on January 10, and then again on February 23, police said.

"The investigation revealed that the victim, a 3 month old infant girl, had been shaken by the accused, her father, so hard that it caused severe head and upper body trauma. Medical staff examining the child alerted police after finding the injuries suspicious and possibly a result of "Shaken Baby Syndrome,"" police said.

Nazar was arrested and charged with two counts of malicious wounding and two counts of felony child abuse on March 7, police said.

He is being held, without bond.
