A South Bend father and his mother are expected in court today on allegations that he beat his son to death, and his mother knew about it. Terry Sturgis is now working on an insanity defense.

Lawyers for Terry Sturgis were given six weeks to have doctors perform a mental evaluation.

Sturgis is accused of tying up his 10-year-old son, Tramelle, and beating him to death last year.

He is also charged with beating his 14-year-old son who survived the incident.

Three doctors evaluations are required to bring the insanity defense. The lawyers now have until April 11th to decide if Sturgis will plead insanity. A trial is scheduled for May 14th.

The grandmother of Tramelle, 53-year-old Dellia Castile, is also expected in court. Castile is facing three counts of felony child neglect after police say she lived in the home and failed to report the abuse committed by her son, Terry Sturgis, on his children.

In January, during Castile's status hearing, a judge once again ruled she should stand trial on the charges.

A judge denied all three motions by her attorney in December for her discharge, dismissal and bond reduction.

Her trial is set for March 19th.
