Baby Suffers Skull Fracture, Bleeding; Father Charged
GROVE CITY -- An 18-day-old baby remains in critical condition Tuesday, with the child's father jailed and charged with felonious assault.

The following excerpt is from a recently obtained 911 call made by the father, Jeffrey Kennedy:

Dispatcher: "Can you tell me if your baby is breathing?"

Caller: "Yeah, he's breathing but … "

Dispatcher: "Is he responding to you?"

Caller: "Not really."

The Jackson Township Fire Department got the 911 call last Sunday. They rushed the infant -- Riley Kennedy -- to Nationwide Children's Hospital for medical attention.

The Grove City Police Department was contacted about the child's condition. Police told ABC6/Fox28 News' Carol Luper that they subsequently talked to Mr. Kennedy and the baby's mother, Alena Green.

Green reportedly told police that she was sleeping when Kennedy called 911.

It was later discovered that the baby suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on his brain. Riley remained on life support as of Tuesday.

Grove City Sgt. Brian Davidson said, "The mother had indicated that the dad had been frustrated with the baby and was having some issues. She indicated she was sleeping and had no idea what was going on with the child. There is no doubt the child was abused. There is no way an 18-day-old baby would end up with that type of a fracture."

Mr. Kennedy remains in jail on a $200,000 bond. Police say Green's 22-month-old son was also placed with Franklin County Children's Services last Friday -- two days before Riley was hurt.

The 22-month-old was with his grandmother as of Tuesday. Police say they are also investigating circumstances concerning this child, as well.
