CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Investigators were first told he may have fallen in the water near The Battery. A day later, the child was found at the bottom of a concrete-filled trash can in a rural area -- two counties away.

A year ago today 2-year-old Rodricus Williams was reported missing from Charleston.

Rodricus' father, Roger Williams and his girlfriend, Grace Nichole Trotman were both charged with homicide by child abuse.

The discovery of the child's remains in Bowman, South Carolina ended a search that involved law enforcement and rescue agencies in three counties, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard.

The search for the child in Charleston Harbor was called off after officials said Trotman admitted to an FBI agent she made up the story. According to an affidavit, "great bodily harm to the child occurred."

Berkeley County Sheriff Wayne Dewitt said that during interviews with the father and girlfriend there was talk about the child being struck on several occasions. Dewitt said there was a history of abuse. He said Rodricus had been admitted to a local hospital several times.

Berkeley County deputy solicitor Bryan Alfaro said the case against Roger Williams and Grace Nichole Trotman is still pending. As of Wednesday afternoon Alfaro said there were no scheduled court dates.
