WYOMING -- A father charged with manslaughter for allegedly killing his 4-month-old daughter waived his preliminary hearing today in Wyoming District Court, sending the case against him onto Kent County Circuit Court.

There are no plea deals on the table for Jeffery Holmes, 25, who investigators say abused his baby, Ahlanna Holmes, causing head injuries that led to her hospitalization and death last month.
The baby girl was taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital on Nov. 19, and doctors called police and Child Protective Services because of possible abuse.

Police told the infant's family she had suffered a brain injury. There was evidence of blood on the baby's brain from an injury within 12 hours of when she was taken to the hospital, and dried blood was present from older injuries.

Court records show Holmes admitted that Ahlanna had struck the refrigerator in his home. It was not clear how that occurred.

Holmes has maintained his innocence.

If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
