Dad on trial for 1st-degree child abuse; friends say he became "rough with the baby when he was drunk" (Hancock, Michigan)

Dad MARK RYAN KROCK is on trial for first-degree child abuse against his infant son. His rather schizo (or at least highly illogical) friends insist that his a "good father" but that he also "became rough with the baby when he was drunk." Okaay. At best, can we say this is a pretty goofy position? When I think of a good father, I think of a guy who's sober and gentle with mom and the baby. When I think of a drunken @$$hole who gets rough and abuses the baby, I think "bad father." Is this just me? Or does any fool get declared a "good dad" these days no matter what he does? Kind of a discredit to the millions of truly good dads, isn't it?

HANCOCK -- The trial of a Hancock man accused of abusing his infant son last spring continues this week.

Mark Ryan Krock is charged with child abuse in the first degree.

The court heard from a number of family friends and witnesses Monday afternoon, including an emotional testimony from the baby's mother.

Friends say Krock was a good father and would never intentionally hurt his young son. But they say Krock also became rough with the baby when he was drunk.

The trial resumes Tuesday with more testimony expected from the defense's medical expert.
