A father who left his three-year-old child playing near a busy road while he drank with friends has been fined by magistrates.
Andrejs Samsonovs was told it was ‘unacceptable’ that he left his daughter running up and down the pavement on High Street, Boston, after he bumped into friends in the street on March 17.
The 33-year-old admitted being drunk in charge of a child when he appeared before Boston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, and was given a £60 fine, £85 costs and a £20 surcharge.
Edward Johnson, prosecuting, said police had seen Samsonovs, of Skirbeck Road, Boston, along with a group of other people while they had been out on patrol at around 8am. They also spotted a child running around on the pavement, and the defendant said he was in charge of her.
He added: “He had a can of alcohol with him. The officer smelled alcohol on him and he appeared unsteady on his feet.”
In mitigation, David Lee said Samsonovs’ wife had been called to work and left him in charge of the child after he had been drinking the night before. He had met friends on the way back from the shop, he said.
