Man accused of injuring 4-month-old boy

SAN ANTONIO - A 19-year-old South side man was arrested after police said he severely injured his 4-month-old son.

Police have not released the man's name but they say he will be charged with serious bodily injury to a child.

The baby boy was taken by EMS to CHRISTUS-Santa Rosa Hospital just before 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Hospital officials called San Antonio police when they saw the extent of the baby's injuries.

He had suffered severe head trauma and internal injuries.

"I couldn't comment as to what caused the injuries, but they do appear to be quite substantial," said a policeman.

Officers determined the baby had been abused and took his father in for questioning.

They later arrested him.

As for the baby's mother, police are not saying where she was at the time but police said there were other children living at the home at the time.

Child Protective Services was called in to assist in the investigation.
