Deadbeat baby killer dad has sentence increased (Plymouth, England, United Kingdom)

Usually English judges are pretty indulgent of baby killer daddies, so this is kind of the exception. The judges at the Court of Appeals actually INCREASED Daddy's jail term, saying his previous prison term of 3 1/2 years was "too lenient." I guess these judges weren't buying the sad tale of how Daddy got "frustrated" when the baby started crying while Daddy was snoozing in front of the telly. I assume that Mum was working while Daddy was parking his "bad mood" arse? Honestly, a lot of these guys are totally useless unless they are contributing a paycheck to the home. And even then, why would any self-respecting mum want to put up with them? They're nothing but blood-sucking parasites.

A Plymouth father who killed his baby son in a fit of temper has had his prison sentence increased from three-and-a-half years to five years.

Graeme Draper, 26, of Beaumont Road, was jailed at Truro Crown Court in November 2010 after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of his son Kodi.

Judges at the Court of Appeal in London said the sentence was too short.

Lawyers for Draper had argued that, although the sentence was lenient, it was appropriate.

Lord Chief Justice Lord Judge, sitting with two other judges, agreed with Attorney General Dominic Grieve QC that the three-and-a-half year prison term was "unduly lenient".

Draper had been dozing in front of the television on November 1 2009 while watching a Formula One Grand Prix when he was disturbed by four-month-old Kodi, the trial in 2010 was told.

When Kodi did not stop crying, Draper lost his temper and threw him into a baby bouncer then grabbed him so violently his head snapped back.

The child suffered fatal brain injuries as the result of his head being thrown backwards and forwards and died in hospital three weeks later without regaining consciousness.

Jobless Draper lied to doctors about how he had caused the injury and tried to blame the baby bouncer for the bay being shaken to death.

He only broke down and confessed when detectives brought it into the interview room to show him that his account was physically impossible.

The sentencing judge, Mr Justice Royce, had accepted that Draper was remorseful and had not intended to cause Kodi really serious harm or to kill him.

The Lord Chief Justice, Lord Judge said at the Court of Appeal: "We are not dealing here with a parent driven to the end of his or her tether.

"All that happened here was that the offender was in a bad mood and irritated."
