Dad charged with severely injuring 6-month-old baby; infant "not expected to recover" (Gloucester, Virginia)

Dad JOHN HOWARD DONNELLY MOXON has been charged with severely abusing his 6-month-old infant, who has a severe brain injury. The baby is "not expected to recover." Notice that like a lot of abuser daddies, Moxon has come up with a cover story to 'splain what happened--except that the cover story doesn't explain the severity of the baby's injuries at all. He'd like us to believe that he "dropped" the baby while bathing him or her, and that this drop of "two to three feet" was enough to land this baby in intensive care with blood clots in the brain. Sounds like another attempt to evoke "clumsy daddy syndrome." Yes, maybe Daddy did drop the baby while he was attempting to bathe the child--and then maybe he threw him or her across the room or something.

Meanwhile, while daddy was playing Mr. Mom (badly), where is the mother of this newborn? Notice there is no mention of her at all. It's as if she had never existed. Do we need any more evidence why moms in this country need maternity leave, and deadbeat abuser daddies need to stop bathing infants and start earning a living?

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT.

GLOUCESTER —
An arrest warrant has been issued against a Gloucester man on charges he abused his 6-month-old child severely enough to cause brain injury.

A Gloucester grand jury on Monday indicted John Howard Donnelly Mixon on one felony count each of child abuse and malicious assault in connection with injuries to the infant.

A warrant for Mixon's arrest was issued Monday. He had not yet been arrested Tuesday afternoon, according to Lt. Scott Little with the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office.

The Gloucester deputies began investigating the case after the infant landed in intensive care in early January.

Around 8 a.m., Jan. 8, Gloucester sheriff's deputies were called to a home in the Sassafras area of the county. The caller said an infant had been dropped two to three feet and was "acting weird," according to a search warrant filed Jan. 10 in Gloucester County Circuit Court.

The child was taken to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester, then to Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk with multiple injuries, according to the warrant.

Mixon told police he accidentally dropped the infant while he was bathing the child, according to the search warrant.

An examination by doctors at Children's Hospital determined the child suffered blood clots and damaged tissue in the brain.

Court documents indicate the child is "not expected to recover.
