DCF to reform itself---AGAIN. Haven't we heard this before? (Florida)

It's such a cliche, but it's true: The more things change, the more they stay the same. After the murder of Nubia Barahona and the vicious assault on her twin brother--apparently at the hands of their adoptive father and/or mother--the Florida Department of Children and Families is promising an "overhaul" so that this will never happen again. As you may recall, there were MULTIPLE complaints about this family, from both inside and outside the system, and nothing was ever done to save these children. In fact, we had the usual gaggle of court whores claiming these kids were "bonded" with these psychos.

Please don't swoon over all the promises. We've heard this all before. That's why I have included a short clip from a 1998 article where we were promised THE SAME THING. People desparately need to develop a collective memory about the behavior of institutions, and not be fooled by the same glib assurances again and again.

MIAMI -- The head of the Florida Department of Children and Families is overhauling his agency after a 10-year-old girl was found dead in her adoptive father's pest control truck on the side of Interstate 95 in West Palm Beach.

"This tragedy was more than just a mistake and poor job execution by selected employees," DCF Secretary Davis Wilkins said at a news conference Monday. "It was a total systemic failure."
Nubia Barahona was found dead in the back of the truck along I-95 last month. Her twin brother was found doused with chemicals inside the truck.

DASTARDLY DADS FROM THE ARCHIVES (Clermont, Florida - 1998)
Custodial dad RICHARD L. ADAMS was charged with murder after confessing to the beating death of his 6-year-old daughter. After that, the State of Florida planned to "tighten" its child welfare policies to keep such an occurrence from happening again.

You know, if I had a dollar for everytime Florida child welfare screwed up, and promised to "revamp" or "tighten" its policies and procedures SINCE 1998, I'd be wealthy and happily retired. Maybe with a nice retirement place in Florida. Or maybe not. Seems to be a lot of killers down there.
