Dad held for bashing 5-month-old daughter (Ipswich, Queensland, Australia)

UNNAMED DAD has been arrested for assaulting his 5-month-old daughter, who is in critical condition. Notice that it's the grandparents who took the baby to the hospital, and that there is not a single word about the mother here. Did Daddy find this baby in a cabbage patch five months ago or what? Why is the mother erased from this story?

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT.

A FIVE-MONTH-OLD Ipswich girl is fighting for her life with broken ribs and severe internal injuries after an alleged assault at the hands of her father.

Police said the girl’s grandparents rushed her to Ipswich Hospital on Saturday where she was treated before being transferred to the Mater Hospital’s paediatric intensive care unit.

Hospital staff reported the girl’s injuries to police, who arrested and charged the father a short time later.

Ipswich Child Protection and Investigation Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Williams said the girl’s injuries were life-threatening.

“There are broken ribs and there is also internal organ damage, and the latest information we have is that she is still in a critical condition,” Sen Sgt Williams said.

“The injuries appear to have been caused by a physical assault.”

Police said there were no weapons involved in the assault, alleged to have occurred between February 7 and March 3 at Flinders View.

A 22-year-old Flinders View man, who cannot be named as it would reveal the identity of the alleged victim, was charged with grievous bodily harm.

He was not required to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday.

His defence lawyer did not make an application for bail and he was remanded in custody.

The case was adjourned for three weeks.
