Dad wanted in death of 2-year-old son; boy apparently died while in dad's custody (Galveston, Texas)

How interesting. Seems daddy DONTREL ALEXANDER SANDERS has run off with his girlfriend, rather than face the music (he's accused of killing his 2-year-old son). Notice that the gal pal in question is NOT the boy's mother. So it appears that this little boy died in a custody/visitation situation involving the father--though, of course, nothing here is explained very clearly and the little boy's mom is not mentioned even once. This, unfortunately, is typical of the media. It's as if there is some hidden rule somewhere: the familial situation/context which allowed a child to be killed must be made as vague as possible.

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT.

GALVESTON — A father accused in the death of his 2-year-old son is being sought by Galveston police after failing to surrender to investigators as promised, police said today.

Dontrel Alexander Sanders, 24, agreed to surrender to detectives at 11:30 a.m. after an arrest warrant was issued in connection with the death of Treashon Young, who police initially believed was 3, but later learned was 2.

Sanders failed to show at the Galveston Police Department. Police believe he is avoiding arrest. He is accused of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury, a felony carrying a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Sanders was last seen with girlfriend Arianne James in Alvin driving a 1996 white Crown Victoria, Texas license plate plate LTY-235.

Sanders and James have two young children together who are believed to be accompanying them. Police spokesman Jeff Heyse said James is not the mother of the slain child.

Police have not made public the circumstances of Treashon's death because the investigation is continuing and more charges could be filed. Officers discovered the unconscious boy Sunday at a residence in the 5400 block of Avenue L. The boy was not breathing and officers were unable to revive him with CPR.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Sanders or James should call Detective Michelle Sollenberger at 409-765-3702 or 409-392-5099.
