NEWARK, N.J. — Murder charges have been filed against a Newark man in the death of his 20-month-old daughter.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray says 24-year-old Travis Hartsfield was caring for the toddler at their home when someone called 911 early Tuesday seeking medical attention for the girl.
She was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
An autopsy determined the child died from blunt force trauma, but no further details on her injuries were disclosed.
Hartsfield was arrested late Tuesday and was being held Wednesday in the Essex County Jail on $750,000 bail. It was not known if he had retained a lawyer.
