Father In Horrific Child Abuse Case Back On The Street

Omaha, NE - The 14-month-old weighed 15 pounds, was covered in filth and bedsores, and was so weak he couldn't lift his head from his crib.

The man accused of almost killing Baby Devon--his father--walked out of the corrections center a free man Wednesday.

Gary Malm served seven years of his ten to 14-year sentence.

In 2004, the details of the case sickened police officers, medics, and prosecutors who were involved. Several told us they had never seen a more disturbing crime scene. Investigators said they smelled rotting flesh when they walked into the baby's room and the child was covered with bugs and maggots.

Malm pleaded no contest to child abuse.

Devon, his brother, and sister now live with their grandmother.
