A 41-year-old Sheboygan man was charged Friday with felony child abuse for allegedly punching his 11-year-old son in the nose as the boy hugged his mother.
Bryan L. Urquhart, of 418 Washington Court, is also charged with misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer and disorderly conduct. He could face up to four years in prison, if convicted on all counts.
According to a criminal complaint:
Urquhart's wife told police he began initiating arguments with her and the children after drinking heavily on Thursday. At one point the 11-year-old became upset and began hugging his mother.
Urquhart then punched the boy in the nose with a closed fist, causing it to bleed.
Police called to the house a short time later heard loud arguing and entered without knocking because they knew from prior contacts that Urquhart was prone to angry outbursts. Urquhart tried to pull away while being arrested, and officers kneed him several times in the buttocks and forced him to the ground.
