Dad admits responsibility in death of 3-month-old son (North Mankato, Minnesota)

Dad CHRISTOPHER DOUGLAS FARRIS has been jailed in the homicide of his 3-month-old son. Daddy was apparently "home alone" with the baby when the baby died of a traumatic head injury. Of course, we're assured that he's a "very good dad." No doubt. Don't "very good dads" "bounce" and bite their babies all the time?

North Mankato Man Admits Responsibility For Son's Death

A three month old child is dead and investigators say his 27 year old father has admitted he is 100 percent responsible.Fox Mankato's Jennifer Hudspeth joins us with the latest.Betsy, This case has officially been ruled a homicide.A three month old baby boy has died, and his father is being accused of murder.It happened Wednesday morning in North Mankato on Lancelot Lane at the family's home.Christopher Douglas Farris is now in the Nicollet County Jail... accused of killing his 3 month old child Dawson John Farris.He is now facing ten felony charges which include 3 counts of 2nd degree murder, 1st and 2nd degree manslaughter as well as Felony assault charges.The complaint states Farris was home alone with Dawson and another three year old son when Dawson started crying.In the complaint, Farris says he "kind of jerked" the baby out of a bouncy seat by one arm...Farris apparently continues to say he started bouncing his son up and down hard for 5 to 10 minutes, and as he walked around the trailer Dawson's head may have hit an open door.An autopsy by the Ramsey County Medical examiner's office concludes the child died as a result of traumatic head trauma.During the autopsy it was noted there was trauma to the child's optic nerve, a bite mark on his cheek and a bruise to the back of Dawson's skull.Defense attorney Linda Zarrett says Farris is taking the situation very hard.Zarrett says, "I think he's been a very good dad this is very difficult for him, he's pretty sad."The North Mankato Police Department and the BCA continue to investigate, and this is one that had definitely grabbed their hearts."Just the emotional problems... dealing with a child. No one that age should be deceased."Farris made his first court appearance this afternoon.Bail was set at 1 point five million dollars without conditions and 750 thousand with the conditions that he have no contact with any children.He is scheduled to appear back in court next Tuesday morning.In the newsroom Jh The Fox Mankato News at Nine.JH News 12.
