Fla. dad arrested after allegedly running over son

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- A central Florida father has been charged with child neglect after he allegedly ran over his son's leg with a truck and didn't report it.

Osceola County Sheriff's deputies said Jason Carter was dropping his 5-year-old son off at the school bus stop Thursday when the boy jumped out before he came to a complete stop. Carter said his son was lying on the ground, but wasn't crying and didn't appear to be injured so he placed him on the bus. He said he called the school to alert them his son might have hurt his knee and to call him if the injury got worse.

The boy told the school nurse he fell out of his dad's truck and was run over. A doctor found tire tread marks on the boy's thigh.

Carter told authorities he had been drinking beer before driving his son to school.
