HAWKINS COUNTY, TN (WJHL) - The parents of a young girl whose death shocked the region are due in court today.

5-year-old Alexa Linboom died in January 2012 after prosecutors said her father and step-mother forced her to drink a lethal amount of grape sode and water as punishment for taking an adult's grape soda in her Hawkins County home.

In court today, Alexa's father, Randall Vaughn and his wife, Mary Vaughn, both charged with aggravated child abuse, aggravated child neglect and first degree murder.

The Vaughn's will be appearing in a key hearing this afternoon as the murder case moves towards a trial likely to start next year.
