8-Month-Old Found Face-Down In Bathtub

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Deputies with the Kern County Sheriff's Department arrested a dad Sunday evening after reports of an infant possibly drowning in a bathtub.

Deputies said that about 5:30 p.m., they were sent to a home in the 5400 block of West Weiman Avenue regarding a possible drowning.

Deputies said they learned that an 8-month-old girl was left unattended in a bathtub.

The infant was found unresponsive with her face in the water, deputies said.

The infant was transported by ambulance to the Ridgecrest Hospital, where she was placed on life support.

During the investigation, deputies said they got a search warrant for the home and said they found about 60 plants of marijuana growing inside the home, undisclosed drugs, a reported stolen motorcycle and an assault rifle.

Deputies arrested the father of the child, Ronald Mastas on charges of child endangerment, cultivation of marijuana, possession of stolen property, possession of narcotics and possession of illegal weapons.

He is currently in custody with a bail of $60,000.
